Today's painting was another find deep from the studio closet.

I had done this for a workshop demo,

but it just wasn't "working".

(Not surprising that some paintings sometimes just don't come out....

ever try to stand in front of 16 people teaching, talking coherently 

all the while trying to produce a decent painting?)

Yesterday, in the privacy and quietness of my studio,

I worked on it a bit....

now its respectable.

Bring your watercolor paintings to a new level: learn how to make your paintings tell a story and be more engaging to the viewer, all with a fresh, loose and dynamic approach. Fundamentals of composition, value, color usage, brushwork, and the artist's impressionistic style will be covered. Students may work on their own or follow teacher's demo. Class structure will consist of critiques, demos, and independent work with individual attention. Please note this class is restricted to intermediate and advanced students.

It always amazes me how something, or someone, can look so different...

just by changing the light.

The other day I was up and out early, driving through downtown...

(mind you, not for the purpose of collecting reference photos...but for shopping at sample sales!)

Anyway, I was driving by our Chinatown...it was vacant...and bright,

there it sat....looking so different than all the times before.
