watercolor (22" x 22")

Isn't it funny how a name can pop into your head....
and it sticks!
"Bettina" came to me during yesterdays workshop.
I was right in the middle of teaching my students
that they too can paint a large elephant piece...just follow my 3 simple points:
1. Simply draw and paint shapes (do not focus on depicting an "eye" or the "floppy ear"),
2. Let the values do the descriptions, and
3. Use colors to make it read right

Anyway..."Bettina" is what came of it.
My students did so well, maybe next time you will join us?

Today's painting is available, email me if you are interested

Winderlea Vineyard

"Winderlea Vineyard"
watercolor (6" x 6")

One of the many treats of teaching watercolor painting
is that you can live vicariously through your students reference photos.
This private student spent the weekend visiting (and tasting) various wineries in Oregon.
Looks like a delightful place to be, including to paint and to taste the wines.

"Winderlea Vineyard" is available, click here if you are interested.

A Neighborly Spot - Sold!

"A Neighborly Spot"
watercolor (7" x 10")

Take a moment with me...
Let's a have a cup of tea.
Let's talk about how the days are getting longer
and that soon we will have ripe tomatoes.

Let's talk about the new family that moved in down the street
and wonder if they will join us in the annual block party.

Or let's not talk about a thing,
let's just feel the warm morning sun upon our faces.

Santa Ana Fountain

"Santa Ana Fountain"
watercolor (12" x 9'')

Today's painting is a re-work of an older piece.
I have been doing a little housekeeping in the studio,
this is the time when old paintings float up to surface....
and then the choice becomes... do I dump, play or salvage the painting?
For this one, I cropped it down from a 12" x 16"
(the whole right side wasn't working for me) to the current size of 12" x 9".
Then I punched some colors into the umbrellas,
and played up the colors in the fountain structure.
And I think I played a bit with the shadow area in front of the fountain. I think I can live with this one.

"Santa Ana Fountain" is available (special pricing),
click here if you are interested.

Before Opening, Balboa Island Fun Zone

"Before Opening, Balboa Island Fun Zone"
watercolor (12" x 12")

Yikes...I do realize it has been a while since I have posted.
It seems life is in transition for me and my family.
We have moved, but havent found our next home yet.
What does that mean?
Well, we are in a lovely vacation home overlooking the arroyo (Rose Bowl area) in Pasadena ....
While everything we own is in storage
(minus the essentials like some clothing, my chef's knives, veggie juicer and,
of course,  my painting supplies)
I think this has thrown off my rhythm a bit...
all good, just some things have gone on the way side.
Anyway, I hope Spring is getting into high gear for you all...its lovely over here.

Today's piece is available at Chemers Gallery
