Along the Venetian Canal -sold!

"Along the Canal" watercolor (10 " x 7")
Colors, colors, colors oh my! I find it fascinating that if a group of artists were given the same image to paint...the resulting works would all come out differently (and that's not due to skill-set). The reality is that artists start off in a similar fashion....drawing the image out on the canvas or paper, its what happens after...the translations...that makes the end products so remarkably unique.
So although it may appear that artists "see" things differently than most, in actuality their perspectives are accurate...its just that their interpretations may be unique. Kinda like life huh, sometimes we assume that because something, some circumstance, or some person isn't translated the way we think it should be....we assume that their perspective and approach is off...but in reality the translations are what makes the world so colorful.

Lunch Meeting

"Lunch Meeting" watercolor (9" x 6")

So here's a couple, a busy couple, who squeeze the few moments that they can to see each other in the middle of their work day. I love how although they are in their business suits, they appear to be relaxed, present, strolling along...all the while holding hands....intimacy amongst the chaos. To me, that is what life is about.....finding the love and giving the love amongst the "busyness".

"Winter Day III" watercolor ( 4" x 10" )

This little painting is the third version of a scene that keeps popping up in my head. I think its revealing to me that I have a strong desire to be sitting out on the veranda of lakeside cabin, sipping a cup of hot tea, cuddled under a warm blanket ....yet feeling the clean, cold, brisk air on my cheeks. Yes, that is a dream of mine....someday. What's your "someday"?

All Tangled Up....sold

"All Tangled Up" watercolor (6" x 8")

Have you ever found yourself all tangled up? For some people its in relationships with others, or for the rough a physical brawl. For me, its all in my head that I get tangled up...past issues, current issues, trying to be present....but most importantly trying to be the person God intended me to be. For some reason, its not as smooth as I think it should be, and spend more time untangling and getting myself freed up. Everyday I take on the challenge: how can I be free of the past and move forward from what holds me back? How can I move that hockey puck towards the goal...?

Todays painting was a commisioned piece and a fun one to do. I just love painting action shots...trying to capture the movement and emotions. The subject is professional hockey player Brett Sterling, who has played for the AHL Chicago Wolves and NHL Atlanta Thrashers. For more info, read the great write up of him in USA Hockey Magazine.

Oh Those Orchids...Sold!

"Oh Those Orchids!" watercolor (6" x 8")
I love painting flowers...well, let's be real....sometimes. When its in me, I just have to honor it, and do it. This piece is so very small for me, because when I usually do florals...I do them BIG! I have found it funny that my small pieces photograph like my large work, just using smaller brushes. Reminds me of the Hill family motto "Do the small things like you would do the large".

Pasadena City Hall

"Pasadena City Hall" watercolor (9"x 12")
For the locals....this may look familiar. It was a great warm and sunny day here in Southern California, and I feel this painting caught it. As you can see, even though its Fall...we hardly see evidence of the season....its seems sometimes we are in perpetual blue skies, green trees, and cool shadows. No complaints here!

Wrangling it up!

"Wrangler" watercolor (9 1/2" x 4")
Yipee-I-aye! This adventure I have found myself on, committing to a daily painting, sure has been a great ride. I would like to say that I have the leads and know exactly where I am going...Ah, but no, only God knows that "little detail". Meanwhile, I figure I just need to simply hold on, do my part, view the beautiful scenery from atop, and be prepared for the joyful gallup!

This is a fabulous challenge!!

"Attitude en Pointe" watercolor (9" x 6")
OK so here it goes....I have challenged myself to paint one painting a day. Since taking this on I have wisely (or fearfully) made some qualifiers: 1) Daily postings will only be of my small works. (For those that are familiar with my work, this in itself is a challenge... as I like to paint BIG). 2) "Daily" will be loosely defined as 3-5 times a week (lets be realistic....can't give up on the BIGGIES....and still be a healthy loving supportive wife and present mom) 3) I will continue on this blogging path as long as it continues to challenge and bring joy to me, yet not feel like a "job".
