Little Moment #6 -SOLD!

"Little Moment #6"
watercolor (6" x 6")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
SOLD (commission)

There are days when I love what I do, and then there are days that I not only love what I do, but actually feel blessed and honored to do what I do.  This was one of those latter days. Today is Julie and Joe's two year wedding anniversary.  I do not know Julie or Joe....but I was honored to do an "I Do" wedding commission for them.  After being invited to look at their wedding photos and then painting the above piece,  I really got a feel for them.  They are an active couple.  They love the outdoors. They are a "no frills" kind of people...its about the time spent, memories made, and the relationships made. They love being together.  He "gets" her. She adores him. He loves her, She needs him. They have the kind of relationship that states "we are meant to be together".
They are best friends.
Happy Anniversary Julie and Joe!

Changing my Perspective- SOLD!

"Pasadena City Hall III"
watercolor (6 " x 11")

Well once again, here we are looking at the same thing (Pasadena City Hall)...but with a new perspective.  I like that...one just can't get bored with things if you try to change your perspective.  This week I am being challenged in this area-- changing my perspective. In particular, I am being challenged to personally grow, heal and change...the "old way" just isn't working anymore (well it works...it just isn't very healthy).  Ooohhh, this is soooo hard, but so necessary.   I am charged with looking at myself with a new perspective (ouch!...where did all those "issues" come from?).  I am charged with looking at people with a new perspective (oh! maybe this isn't all your fault).  I am charged with taking the time to heal my past wounds so that I can be present (what do you mean I have to sit still?).  I am charged with choosing to change (this isn't easy)....change me, so that I may have a new healthier perspective in life.

Little Moment #4

 "Little Moment #4"
watercolor (6" x 6")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
Available at Segil Fine Art Gallery

It's in the one on one moments that us parents get introduced to our little ones.
We notice that they skip instead of walk, that they prounounce their S's as"thhh" like "thandwich".
We get reminded by them of the simple beauties in our world,
Beauties that lose details to us adults, details that can become a blurr like a brushstroke that we pass by.
They remind us of the different colors in flowers, the awe in seeing a butterfly,
the joy in being outdoors.
It's in the one on one moments that us parents get introduced to our little ones,
and are re-introduced to our world
and it usually starts with

Dreama's Window

"Dreama's Window"
watercolor (5.5 " x 8")
Most of the time a title of a painting will come to me when I am actually snapping the photo or during the painting process.  This piece was a quick and refreshing little artistic jaunt. I really enjoyed it, but strangely enough the title, "Dreama's Window", was all that was popping in my head, nothing else.  Can't really figure it out ...but if you know Dreama and follow her blog, that may give us a clue.

A Dad with His Son _SOLD!

"A Dad With His Son"
watercolor, 12" x 9"
SOLD (Commission)

When Does a father become a Dad?
When he first holds his baby tenderly.
When he puts nothing in front of that child's well being.
When Does a father become a Dad?
When he sees and fulfills every need of his child.
When he knows its in the little moments that matter the most.

When Does a father become a Dad?
When there is never a time in being too late "to do it right".
When as grown men...they can still walk together...embraced arm in arm.

Little Moment #3

"Little Moment #3"
watercolor (6" x 6")
mounted on Archival museum board, UV and Archival varnish coated.
Display easel included.
Available at Segil Fine Art Gallery

Another one from my "Little Moments" series.  These have been so much fun from start to finish!  Speaking of fun, summer has officially begun in our house.  This summer, I am on a quest to get more in tune with my "inner child". So today our daughter and I went for a hike, we tromped in the river, splashed a lot, and caught a frog together! Now isn't that what kids do...have fun? Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings (like if the frog is still alive) and how I can be more kid-like.

And a little reminder: Each "Little Moment" comes with their own little easel. No framing and no wall space needed. How cool is that?

Little Moments- SOLD!

"Little Moment #2"
watercolor (6" x 6")
mounted on Archival museum board, UV and Archival varnish coated.
Display easel included.
Available at Segil Fine Art Gallery

So many exciting things going on...the radio interview (listen to it by clicking on photo in upper right corner of blog)...and now a new series to reveal.  I have discovered a new way for my collectors to enjoy my work.  I paint these little gems (6" x 6" paintings) on my usual Arches paper, which are mounted on archival museum boards, then they are UV and element protected under an archival varnish. These fabulous little panels then can be plopped into a glassless frame or very elegantly displayed on a small table top easel.  I am so thrilled about this, that I am offering a free display easel with each "Little Moment" Painting purchased. I included a photo of  "I Got This" (which has been renamed "Little Moment #1) with the display easel which is included with each order.

"Little Moment #1"

Together Forever

"Their First Prayer Together"
watercolor (12" x 9")

They are on their knees together, they are starting the lives together, they are submitting together, they are  excited to be together, they are on the road of many "first"s to be shared together. They are together... forever.

Have you listened to my radio interview by Gene Gee for his "Getting to Know..." series? It's a great way to learn a lot about Julie Hill, the artist. Just click here, or on the photo in upper right hand corner of Blog.

Mid Year's Reflection- SOLD!

"Fox Theater, Riverside II"
watercolor (9" x 12")
So a year ago this month I was working on a commission piece for Provident Bank, their 2010 calendar highlighting the old Fox Theater in Riverside (today's painting is a "study" from that commission work).  This year they have once again asked me for the artwork for their 2011 calendar, and they have chosen the Heritage House in Riverside as their subject.  All this to say, this has made me reflective of what a year it has been.  It's  kinda like instead of New Year's Resolutions, its Mid Year's Reflections.  I am really grateful for all that God has done in my life this last year, it is truly a blessing.  What is your Mid-Year's Reflection?

Move Along

"Along the Way"

Today, I choose to move along. Today, I choose to meander in the meadow, smell the flowers, stay within gazing distance of the fence, but still move along. Yes today, I choose to move along.

I Got This

"I Got This"
watercolor (6" x 6")

Sometimes the title of a painting comes to me when I actually capture the image with the camera, sometimes when I am sketching it out, sometimes while I am painting it, yet most of the time...it's just after I finish the piece that the title pops into my head. I have been in a bit of an overwhelming place lately...spiritually, emotionally, and artistically...as overwhelming as it is, its all good because I know that God is trying to take me to a new place, a new level ...and from past experience I just need to let this be and let God do His thing. So in my painting world, that's just what I did, and when I finished this piece I truly felt "I Got This".

Rose Bowl Wedding Receptions -SOLD!

"Rose Bowl II"
Watercolor (6" x 11")
SOLD (Commission)

I learned something new the other day...no matter how hard you have something planned out, mapped out, or your intentions real clear.....it just can't always go as planned. And this is a good thing.  As you all may know, I have started a new adventure of "I Do" Wedding Commissions....and it has been going great. I had visions of wedding photos to work with, yeilding exquisite couples portrayed in their loveliest moments... Well, believe it or not, this the most recent Wedding Commission...the lovely wedding couple is having their reception in the Rose Bowl field (how fun would that be?) and a loved one of that couple wanted to give them the perfect wedding gift.

Hence, I have come to the conclusion that control is way over rated, and that we all could use a intervention in our "control issues"...imagine the possibilities, if more of us let go and let it be what it is meant to be. We could all have "Rose Bowl Wedding Receptions"

Sunflowers -SOLD!

watercolor (12" x16")

I met a nice lady the other day....I was speaking to her about my monthly J Hill Paintings newsletters...and she said "it would be really nice to know what your inspirations are for your paintings". Hmmm, that's a good idea.  So, I have added that feature to the newsletter.  Today's painting, "Sunflowers", is June's "Painting of the Month"...to find out the inspiration for this piece be sure to check out this month's newsletter....sign up here to receive it in your email.

I like it when I have a seemingly simple conversation with someone...and they lead me into a new direction. I wonder how many directions or destinations we may miss because we aren't really listening?
