"Title the Untitled" -SOLD!

"Untitled #8"
watercolor (12" x 12")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
SOLD

Well, its been awhile...but here is another "Title the Untitled".  Remember, the best title wins a set of J Hill Paintings notecards and a mention in October's Newsletter.

Speaking of "remembering"; the old saying 'an elephant never forgets' is scientific fact. Matriarchs in particular have a social memory whereby they are able to remember old faces. This skill can be vital to the survival of the herd; when the female elephants encounter other individuals they do not recognise, family members bunch together defensively to protect their young. Most interesting, elephants show signs of grief over dead relatives such as gently touching the corpses with their feet and caressing the bodies with their trunks. So it is true, an elephants memory is superb. Me? on the other hand, not so good.  Those of you that know me can attest to this (if I remember who you are...just kidding ). But seriously, if you ask me what colors I used in this painting...I can't remember!

Where will you end up? -SOLD

"Little 'Scape #15 "
watercolor (5" x 7")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
SOLD
My good friend Kelley Sanford "went" to Provence.  She sat under an umbrella, sipping wine and painted the lavender fields...I got so jealous I "went" to Giverny and painted in Monet's garden.....no umbrella needed, I was under the shade of the lovely trees. Our fellow daily painter Kelley MacDonald said she was "going" to Provence too...I wonder where she will end up? Where will you end up?

Some days you just have to fight, and then there are some days that things just come together.  For us artists, painting is like that too...some days, it just all comes together...and real quick too.  Those are the best days (especially when you are a daily painter!). Today was one of those days....enjoy your stroll in Provence.

My Own Complexities - sold!

"Little Moment #20"
watercolor (6" x 6")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
SOLD

How are you today? Are you cheery? Are you overwhelmed? Do you feel inspired?  Do you feel present? Today I feel complex...not one way, not another....its hard to be present when you feel complex.  Today, I would like to be just like these sunflowers....just put my face up to the sun...and grow...grow nice and tall.  Yes, today I would like to be present, and rid myself of my own complexities.

There some things in your life that are challenging, there are some things that just don't make sense, there are some things that truly test your faith....but then, every once in a awhile a good thing happens...a good thing that can only be by the work of God.  And that's when you just have to sit back and say WOW!! And in that moment I give thanks.

fun in my "job"

"Riverside Fox Theater, Study"
watercolor (9" x 12")
There is something about being an artist that is so fun...well, to be honest there are a lot of things that are fun...but one is taking those snap-shots of life...catching the everyday scenes and putting your own little twist on it.  I think this is fun and can be so rewarding. I truly feel blessed that I can have so much fun in my "job".

Quiet time

"Little 'Scape #13"
watercolor (5" x7")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
$150

Quiet moments...do you crave them? Do you need them?  I do. It's my time to reflect where I am. Where I am going.  It's my time to get back into balance, to restore.  Today started, in the quiet morning of dawn, doing this  painting ...and the day has been pretty quiet thus far....so very restoring for me. How do you find your quiet time?

watercolor (8" x 8")
PAINTING OF THE MONTH
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
$300

If you have been following my blog for a bit, you know I just love Italy...the architecture, the culture, the history, the colors, the food, and the memories of our last trip.  All so wonderful, it seems I can never tire of painting Italian scenes. I find inspiration in my stock of photos constantly...always a new perspective to take in, a new feeling to let out, and new ways to play with colors!

Making Gazpacho

"Little Moment #19"
watercolor (6" x 6")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
$150 (free shipping in US)

I said "Hey Girlfriend...what you paint today?"  She said "Here, I will send it to to you". I said "OK, I will send you mine".  So off we go to email each other our "daily paintings"....in the speed of light we instantly see what we each did that day.....crazy crazy...go see what Kelley Sanford painted today!! My dear friend has often said maybe we were separated at birth...hmmm I am starting to buy into that theory. Instead of two peas in a pod....maybe we are just two tomatoes waiting to make gazpacho!

How are you going to cross? -SOLD

"Little 'Scape #12
watercolor (7" x 5")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
SOLD

Bridges...are you going to stay on the bridge and go easily over the rough terrain?
Or are you going to go under the bridge...into the thick of it?

When is it neccessary to take the leisure way, full of pretty views?
When is it essential to muster the strength to plow through the rough stuff?

And when you get to the other side,
will you be in a better place not because you actually crossed
...but it was how you got there?
