Well Christmas is over....so you know what that means....bowl games!!! And here in Pasadena, of course, that's the Rose Bowl.  This year it is Wisconsin Badger's versus the undefeated Texas Christian University (TCU). Today's painting is no reflection on my allegiance...just that I thought red would be a better color for this piece.  Stay tuned for a piece highlighting TCU (their colors are purple and black).

Vintage Colorado St. Bridge

"Vintage Colorado St. Bridge" (Little 'Scape  #25)
watercolor (5" x 7")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
available at
Continuing on the theme of local sites...I came across a vintage photo of our Colorado Street Bridge.  Look at all that is missing from the image...no freeway, no houses, no dam, no structures in the distance; and yes, that is the San Gabriel mountains in the background.
1920's...that would be an ideal time for me...simplicity at its best.

Cool Cowboy Contentness

"The Lone Rider"
watercolor (12" x 12")
 $500

Today's painting is a larger version of an earlier painting I have done....I remember when I took this photo...
This cowboy seemed so very content...
and I suppose who wouldn't be, strolling along the nature path on horseback?
Yes, I believe I would have a "contentness" about me too.
But then I realized I was content too...being in the same place with this gentleman,
just was minus the horse (and cool cowboy hat).
I would like to find that "contentness" independent of me exercising on nature walks, hearing the birds chirping, river flowing nearby and being in the sunshine.
Do you have that "Cool Cowboy Contentness" in your everyday life?

Colorado Street Bridge V

"Colorado St. Bridge V" (Little 'Scape #24)
watercolor (5" x 7")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
$150
available at

Well another local site...and the most requested painting for visitors and locals alike within the Pasadena area...."The Colorado St Bridge".  The Colorado Street Bridge is an historic concrete bridge with Beaux Arts arches, ornate lamp posts and railings.  Built in 1913, the initial design proved difficult due to finding solid footing in the river bed below. However, when engineers conceived the idea of curving the bridge, they  created a work of art.
The Colorado Street Bridge was part of Route 66 until 1940 when the Arroyo Seco Parkway opened.
Today, the bridge has received a Civil Engineering Landmark designation and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Castle Green

"The Castle Green" (Little 'Scape #23)
watercolor (5" x 7")
available at

Another local site for today's painting.... The Castle Green in Pasadena, Ca. . The Castle Green is one of Pasadena's most unique buildings, an imposing seven story Moorish Colonial and Spanish style building.  The Castle Green opened in 1899 as the second of three buildings in the Hotel Green complex, and was a lavish resort for easterners and others escaping winter rigors. The Hotel Green soon became the social center of Pasadena, playing host to vacationing tycoons and even presidents. It was also home to both the Tournament of Roses and the Valley Hunt Club. Because of its historical nature and preservation of interiors, a number of motion pictures and television commercials have been filmed in and around the building.

The Castle Green is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the State Historic Register, and the City of Pasadena's list of Historic Places.

The Gamble House

"The Gamble House" (Little 'Scape #22)
watercolor (5" x 7")

I am always looking for local sites to paint....The Gamble House here in Pasadena, California is my latest venture.  The Gamble House is an outstanding example of American Arts and Crafts style architecture. The house and furnishings were designed by Charles and Henry Greene in 1908 for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter and Gamble Company. The house, a National Historic Landmark, is owned by the City of Pasadena and operated by the University of Southern California and is open for public tours. Its a great place to check out sometime.

The Surreal Experience

"Pink Cala Lily" (Little Moment #30)
watercolor (6"x 6")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
$150

Have you ever had a surreal experience, a once in a lifetime experience...that only few people in the world will ever get to have...so beyond comprehension...that it truly goes beyond what you can wrap your brain around.  I like to think that it is these moments in life when you get to assess where you really are.

How present are you?
What does this really mean in the grand scheme of things?
Does this add value to you?
Does this make you a better person?
Who was there to share the experience?
How will you remember this event?
If you were alone, would it have the same impact?

So its not really the fact that you saw and tried on the the 12th largest diamond in the world, with a value of $44 million dollars, it's really all about the people you met and the loved ones that shared the experience with you.

In Just a Moments Time

"Lumiere Francaise" (Little Moment #29)
watercolor (6" x 6")
Painting on Arches paper mounted on archival museum board,
UV and archival varnish coated. Display easel included.
$150

Where will you be in just a moments time?
Will you be in the shade of the cool French architecture?
Will you seek the sunny side of the alley-way?
Will you pause for a moment, gazing at the geraniums?
Are you lured by the light around the bend?
Where will you be in just a moments time?
