I Prayed....

"I Prayed..."
watercolor (24" x 18")

I am very excited to post this painting today...
If you remember, I had done the smaller 6" x 6" version of this titled  "And in Heaven" ....
and realized this would make a good entry into the prestigious Watercolor West International Show.
So I enthusiastically did this one...
months ago.
And since then, I have been patiently
waiting for the Watercolor West entry deadline to approach...

But what I am most excited about is the slide show demo for this painting....check it out!

Summer en Plein Air #2- Sold!

"Lower Arroyo, North of the Bridge"
watercolor (7" x 10")

Continuing on with my summer series of en plein air...this was a delightful morning.
Again the daughter and dog joined me...frolicking in the stream.
Me, trying to to edit out all that was in front of me and put in the essentials (minus the dog and kid),
all the while staying the light (boy does that sun move fast!).
My best gal pal Kelley Sanford decided to join in on our fun...I sent her photos of what I was working on, and she decided to paint my daughter. Check out what she did at her daily painting blog

Stay tuned for the next "frolicking" Summer En Plein Air piece later this week.

"Quiet Place, Replenish"
watercolor, 13" x 18.5"

It’s not Sunday.
A breath, I take.
A moment.
A pause.
It’s the stillness that I crave.
In that stillness, the smell of Spring’s first bloom, the touch of Summer’s sun on my face, the serenade of the waves at sunset, the gentle strength when being held in His arms.
It is here, that I . . . Replenish

Today's painting "Quiet Place, Replenish" is available at Chemers Gallery

Summer Plein Air #1

"Hahamonga Wash, June"

Yesterday, we went to play.
Daughter frolicked in water and built forts.
Dog trapsed in water and collected big tree limbs.
Mom stayed out of water and plein air painted.

Today's painting is the first of my summer series "2011 Summer Plein Air".
Join me as I explore my local area with color and brushstrokes.

Dori's Oranges -Sold!

"Dori's Oranges"
watercolor (9" x 12")

The other day my local gal pal artists, Dana Cooper and Dori Dewberry, and I got together for a little paint out.
We were in Dori's backyard with magnifient flora and fauna....
see those gorgeouse oranges from one of her abundant citrus trees.
These get togethers are so fun...its a wonder that we get any painting done at all with all the gabbing and goofing around we do.
That morning...well it was off to a slow start for me...
between the tea, art sharing, sharing of news, and weighty discussions about life and our art careers...
so I had to finish this piece in my home studio.
Orange juice anyone?

Jacks on High

"Jacks on High"
watercolor (6" x 6")

Today's painting is for Daily Paintworks weekly challenge. This week we were charged with "creating a stack of something that is balanced, in many ways. Literally balancing things on top of other things, and balance in color, color compliments, neutrals and bright color, composition, negative/positive space, and then paint it!"
How fun was this...

I am all about finding the balance...in art and in life!
"Jacks on High" is available as a Little Moment painting, created on Arches paper mounted on museum archival board. Protected with UV archival varnish, so no framing under glass needed.  Painting comes with free display easel and free shipping.

"Quiet Place- Refresh"
watercolor (12" x 11")

A quaint table off in a shadowed corner, a blade of sunlight and a steeping cup welcomes me. I swirl the cup under my nose, teasing my senses with the citrus aroma in its steam. One sip brings warmth to an inner chill. Out the window, Fall and Summer meet where green turns amber in the large leaves. Three errands down, two to go. . . Refresh.

Today's painting was inspired from a reference photo by Laurie Allee taken in our local coffee shop "Kaldi".  Laurie is our phenomenal local daily photographer here in South Pasadena,

Restore -Sold!

"My Quiet Place, Restore"
watercolor (9" x 12")
available at Chemers Gallery

It all starts when my toes dip beneath the suds, into the warm welcoming water.
I submerge neck deep beneath my cloud of bubbles.
That muscle between your shoulders, the trapezius muscle…
emphasis on the “Trap” finally let’s go. . .
That’s when the noise from the house begins to fade.
The day’s pop-ups in my head slowly begin to close.
I can feel the tension behind my eyes slowly unwind.
My breath turns to a soft exhale.
My heart slows. . . .I Restore.
